Huw Raine is a Central St Martin’s College of Art and Design graduate where he studied Industrial and Studio Ceramics. He is also a qualified and experienced design tutor. Raine Ceramics was set up in 2012, after 8 years running potteries and manufacturing ceramics in South Wales.

Lucy Hurley BA(hons) Fine Art is a highly skilled maker and decorator having a passion for contemporary Art and Design joined the team in 2015.

With our recent move to Nantgarw China Works, Raine Ceramics now has the opportunity the breath fresh hope into the critically endangered craft of industrial pottery which has recently been added to the Heritage craft Associations red list of crafts at risk.

We offers bespoke ceramic design consultancy, servicing potteries, product designers and architects. Specialising in ceramic mould making, prototyping and batch production.

Throughout his career, Huw has had a strong interest in contemporary ceramic design and the production of functional, unusual and aesthetically pleasing ceramics. He has a vast contextual back round in ceramics having exhibited and set up shows in London, worked with the V&A and worked within the Contemporary Ceramics department in Bonhams Auctioneers. He has been particularly influenced by post war Scandinavian design, Japanese porcelain and marine environment and its fauna. Huw uses high fired porcelain with a combination of slip casting and hand building and other materials to create his unique wares along with experimenting with stoneware and the simple forms and natural tones reflecting the geology of the Welsh coastline.
